Professor
Professor

Professor once spent his day digging through trash to find food. Now he is living in his new family and spends his day at doggie daycare playing with his friends. He is so happy with his family, toys, and best of all a full belly everyday.

Penny
Penny

Penny was brought to the local Animal Control by her former owners. She was scared and terrified. The volunteers finally won her trust. Due to her sweet face she was given a second change when Mid Atlantic German Shepherd rescue told us they would help her. It was clear that she had not had an easy life and she had come along way. While she waited for her transfer she settled in to her den at the Adoption Center and won the hearts of many with her gentle spirit. She was transferred to her group on August 22 and found her forever home on September 9. There are so many homeless animals waiting. Please consider opening your heart to on of these precious souls. Together you will create a bond and memoires to last a life time.

Troy
Troy

Hi Anita, Walker (aka Troy) is absolutely wonderful! He is such an amazing dog. He's so laid back and loving! He's been doing so great here. In the couple weeks we've actually noticed quite a change in him and he seems to have finally realized this is his forever home! We have lots of friend's dogs who come and go, but he is finally confident that he will always be here! He's started obedience school and I think he's the smartest pup in the class (not that I'm biased or anything!). Walker is particularly in love with his Daddy, who jumps out of bed every morning to play with Walker and take him for his morning walk. We go to the dog park often and Walker is the most social guy there. He has to greet every new dog that comes in! It breaks our hearts to think of poor Walker's time as a homeless dog, but we are grateful that he ended up finding us! I just read through some of the emails you had sent prior to us adopting Walker. I thought it was funny that Walker used to like to swim in your pond. We have a river near us that we take him to and he is not at all interested in swimmming! He'll wade in and take a drink, but then he wants out! Funny! I've pasted in a link to some pictures of him (and his brother Mittens) below. Thanks for all your help is getting Walker and us together! Mary and Frode

Buster
Buster

Buster was a wonrderful Boxer mix that found himself with his brother at a high kill shelter. Below is updates from his new family and this really does our heart well. Friday, May 16, 2008 We are so excited too! My husband told his son that I was getting me a dog....and then they both laughed--he'll spoil Buster worse than me! We are looking forward to this evening and I will be happy to keep you updated. Thanks--it has been a pleasure working with you through this! Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 Anita and Jenny, Just wanted to give you an update! Buster is doing great! He has chased squirrels and rabbits (he thinks he is a hunter and very slowly and gently puts down one paw in front of the other all the while smelling the air), got over his fright of cows--they came over to the fence to say hello and he took off like a shot), drinks from the lake everyday(he thinks it is his big water bowl), gone swimming, played lots of ball/fetch, marked every corner of our lot, and ran like the wind with the neighbor's dog--but never out of sight of us, met some other doggy friends--always so calm no matter how fierce they look--and absolutely loves pig ears....we have to limit those. He follows us everywhere we go and loves all the attention and responds with lots of sloppy kisses and hugs. He is great! We have our 'whines' down to which is to go outside and which is to potty--and that has been going great. I put all his toys in a basket and he promptly pulls each and every one back out onto the carpet where he lays in between. He likes his things....I tried to change out the blanket in his crate but he wasn't buying any of that...so I put the original one back. Today is my first day back at work and Andy is with him--he is actually off until 8/25 so I am tickled that Buster will have someone to play with...and Andy will have company.... May 28, 2008 Yes, he is getting braver—he put his dirty feet in yesterday after digging in the dirt…he loves to dig and stick his nose in the ground…he is funny. He has been swimming once—my son put him in the water over the side of the dock and he swam to shore and shock off came on back like it was nothing! I think he may like it more when we get in too—but it was a little cold for me. The mole was his favorite toy until I got him a sheep that sounds differently…more like a honking—and he has it down to where he can do repeated bleeps….. November 3, 2008 That seems so long ago that I wrote that. Buster is doing great! He is a joy! We have spoiled him rotten but he has maintained that very sweet and well mannered disposition. He got used to having baths in the lake over the summer—and bless his heart, stands still even when I pour the rinse water over his head. Since the weather has changed, we moved in to the inside tub — he was leery at first but since he so loves being towel dried, he puts up with it! We left him with a trainer who lives on a farm when we had to travel out of town this month and he did great…but you could tell he was happy to be home. And by the way—the trainer fell in love with him as did her children and said that if ever we had to give him up (not happening) she would take him in a heartbeat! He has learned to spell — so we are careful how we indicate “up the hill” and to the “garage” (again up the hill) because he loves going there -- usually there are rabbits or squirrels to chase and a couple of acres of running room. We let him run with his bright orange (since hunting season has opened) at least once a day, but for the most part he stays in the yard where we are…most times, unless we are leaving, we do not even have to collar him within the invisible fence. And, even though we said we wouldn’t, Buster has his very own pillow (a smaller version) and place at the bottom of our bed. He still loves his crate and he still loves his leash. And he still is a “scaredy cat” at night — he stays right at my legs when he goes out after dark to use the bathroom until he is satisfied all is clear—he is so funny! Some of the locals know him now because he and my husband usually take a trip daily (and remember how he didn’t like riding in a vehicle?). We took him to Lowes yesterday and he paraded around like he owned the place. The clerks at Bojangles love it when he comes through their drive up—and usually he gets a special bacon treat! He loves riding in the boat too and is offended if we take off without him! This year we also took him to the festival in Newbern and everybody stopped and petted and heehawed over him—Buster ate it up. He is great with children—our grandson was on a blanket on the deck and we told Buster to not get on the blanket — Buster went to the sides as far away as he could get to get around him. What a dog! Thanks for rescuing him! We say everyday how lucky we got in finding Buster for our first dog! Linda

Fletcher
Fletcher

Wonderful family from NYC adopted this sweet boy and he now goes for his daily walks in Central Park! Not bad for our Franklin County sweetie. Thanks to Homeward Bound of PA for making this adoption possible.
